Mixed Media Collage

The process often begins by using copies of my original photographs along with pages of text and photos sourced from vintage books and magazines, including my high school yearbook. Eco prints, from plant material are also used in some of the collages.

 

I alter these papers by sanding, chemically removing portions of the ink, rusting the paper or drawing into an image.  The papers are then fused together with a hot iron onto canvas, wood, or high quality paper. As a final step, I draw or paint onto the surface.

Many of these collages have a deep personal meaning and sometimes a political or environmental message embedded in words or symbols.
